Franchise star player Luka Doncic injured playing against the Miami Heat
Luka Doncic, with possible sprained ankle, hobbles off the court
In today’s match up between the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat, Luka Doncic suffered an ankle roll that ended with the franchise player hopping off the court. This is a huge setback to the young star’s prospects of winning the MVP award for 2019/2020 NBA regular season.
The injury occurred at the early during the first quarter. Luka Doncic, with ball in hand, dribbled along the left hand side at the top of the circle and began to drive into the paint. As he planted his right foot down, it landed on a Miami Heat defender’s foot, and his ankle rolled to the right. Immediately Doncic hopped off to the baseline where he clutched his right ankle, then laid on the floor among spectators. The game stopped as medical staff assessed his injury, and then subsequently supported him back to the locker room.
X-rays have been conducted, and it appears that there are no broken bones, and damaged is confined to torn ligaments in the ankle.
Luka Doncic has been averaging a near triple-double at 30 points per game for this regular season and has been instrumental in driving Dallas Mavericks to a winning record. The Mavericks, unexpectedly, sit third behind the LA Clippers and the LA Lakers in the Western Conference, and ahead of the Houston Rockets, Denver Nuggets and Utah Jazz. Putting egg in the faces of many Sports Analysts predictions for this start to the year, many did not expect the Mavericks to be third in the Western Conference, let alone compete for the play offs. However without Luka Doncic and his MVP attributes, the Dallas Mavericks may see a trend of losses coming their way. Ironically this may prove, that Luka Doncic is the most valuable player in the NBA.
In sports betting odds, Luka Doncic ranks as the second favorite to win the MVP for season. It will be interesting to see what happens to the betting odds for MVP. Will his odds fall dramatically? Unfortunately I believe his chances of winning the MVP will decrease if he is not able to return to playing for the Dallas Mavericks in the near future. Let’s hope the injury is not too bad, and he can return to the court in the coming week or two.
