Who hasn’t heard of Las Vegas, where the entertainment never stops, gambling, concerts, the big draw card boxing fights are held. Its popularity enhanced in so many Hollywood movies like Oceans Eleven and The Hangover. This is the number one gambling attraction in the US, bringing in locals and tourists from all around the world. The glamour, the bling bling, fame and fortune has no bounds.
Las Vegas is located in the state of Nevada, a state which includes many other cities which also offers a lot of action!
Quite clearly, Nevada gaming laws allow many types of gambling. Both online and at bricks and mortar, and both casino and sportsbook. There is one exception however and that is a statewide lottery. With a fear of gambling operators of losing market share to a state lottery, legalizing a lottery never came into force.
So let’s get started with our gambling review of Nevada, with online casinos. There are hundreds of online casinos to choose from, so we have compiled a list of our recommended sites. We summarise the top 5 per below:

Creating a list of online casino sites recommended for Nevada players is not rocket science, but it’s not easy either. It takes time to play through and test them and seek feedback from other players to then rank them. Understandably some players look for unique features in an online casino, however the vast majority (including ourselves) highly regard Game Selection, Game Design, Customer Service and Safety as paramount.
Game Selection and Game Design provides an enjoyable gaming experience
It can be extremely frustrating when a player cannot find the game they want to play, or they find it but it glitches, breaks down, or just isn’t smooth. Therefore, finding an online casino that provides a wide selection of games that are designed and built with quality Is one of the most important criteria to assess an online casino against. Often this also comes down to who the online casino operator has partnered with to provide the gaming software. Game developers also play a part in contributing to the ranking of an online casino. There are some game developers who are untried, new and yet to be trusted, whilst big brands such as RealTime Gaming is a sought after partner, well known for their longevity in the industry and third party independent quality checks.
Prompt and Professional Customer Service
Similar to insurance, it’s never thought of being necessary until an issue arises. And when it is used, it’s always a bug bear when the service is poor. Hindsight often comes to mind, and the question of How did I Choose such a poor Customer Service site is thought of. Professional and friendly customer service goes a long way in ranking casinos. Without it, players can be stuck for hours on end without playing, without depositing or withdrawing, leading to frustration. The best online casinos will offer various methods to log a question, which include email address, chat service or occasionally a phone line.
Nevada Online Gambling
In 2018 online sports betting became legal and operational in Nevada. Nevada became the first state to release mobile sports betting apps for players using geo-location software and age verification platforms to ensure compliance with the Nevada Gaming Policy regulations.
Online poker (rooms) were legalized and made available in 2013. The legalization of online poker, in theory, could extend to casino games however the has yet to be implemented. The only licensed operator for online poker rooms I’d WSOP.com.
Online casino games have yet to become legalized and operational. There were concerns from land based operators that legalizing online casino games would cannibalize the existing land based market. Hence, the reluctance to push forward with online casino table games.
Online casinos however are offered by offshore operators. There is a long history of online casinos offshore, and the big brand names have created a great diverse offering of quality games, excellent and competitive bonuses and a real dedication to customer service.
Nevada ranks as the 22nd in the US for playing at offshore online casinos. Wagering an estimated $11.7 million per year, it ranks just above Missouri and behind Connecticut. The state with the largest wagering for offshore online casino is California at $180 million.
Overview of Nevada Casinos
There are simply too many land based casinos to review and write about, so we’ve grouped them in locality and highlighted the well known or unique casinos.
Las Vegas Casinos
It is mind boggling as to how many casino venues there are in Vegas, let alone on the Las Vegas Boulevard a.k.a. the Vegas Strip. The Strip is not just about the casinos though, it has fine dining, retail shopping, live concerts, live performances, tourist attractions and lots lots more. To choose a casino or several casinos to visit will depend on what you are looking for in terms of entertainment, affordability, family and friends. As you can tell, the serious gamblers do not venture much to the Strip, as it is much more catered to tourists who are willing to spend money and have fun, rather than searching for the best payouts.
Without going into all the casinos, we list out the casinos which have attributes that make them special and or famous.
Bellagio Hotel and Casino
Oceans Eleven was centered around the Bellagio, and fittingly so, since the Bellagio is smack bang in the middle of the Strip where all the action is. The “Fountains at Bellagio” is something to behold with the Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens uniquely found in the casino resort. The shows are top class with plenty of restaurants to choose from.
The Bellagio is therefore more than just the gaming although the decadent floor holding over 2300 slot machines in itself is a sight to behold. Also check out the poker rooms, a must for one of the stop of the World Poker Tour.
In my opinion this is a must to visit, and definitely belongs in the top 10 casinos.
Caesars Palace Las Vegas Hotel & Casino
The Hangover was filmed at this casino. Fabulous retail outlets and food court available. So much history contained in this venue hosting the greatest boxing fights ever. The casino is massive, luxurious, extravagant. Words cannot describe how great this venue is. The gaming floor has the most million dollar slots than any other casino in the world.
If you are a big fan of sports history, big time entertainment, then this casino is a must.
One of the most highly rated casino resorts in Las Vegas. Another one the belongs in the top ten of casino resorts to visit. Opulent and decadent, the two words which really sums up this casino.
Spanning over 120,000 sq ft, containing more than 120 tables, laid with marble floors and covered with hand painted ceilings, this is the largest gaming floor in Las Vegas. The retail shops are authentic and possibly cannot be found anywhere else in the world to buy. The attention to detail and workmanship in building this mega gambling den is extraordinary. There are street performers, gondoliers and St Mark’s Square to mention a few of the attractions in this venue. They bring Venice to Las Vegas.
Wynn Las Vegas
Not positioned as outwardly and open as the other mega casinos (and I mean this in relative terms), slightly more distanced away from the busiest areas of the Strip, but don’t take this to mean it ain’t great. Far from it, this is decadence to the max with a more contemporary design than most other casinos on the strip.
The Wynn casino is designed with two magnificent copper towers. Each tower houses it’s own unique hotel, however the underlying casino gaming floors meld into one, forming the second largest in Las Vegas. You will get lost in the maze of slot machines!
Casinos in Las Vegas outside of the Strip
Casinos outside of the Strip tend to have a better payout ratio.
Below are the casinos outside of the Strip but in Las Vegas
- Ellis Island
- Joker’s Wild
- Eastside Cannery Casino & Hotel
- Poker Palace
- Red Rock Casino Resort
- Silverton Hotel & Casino
Casinos outside of Las Vegas
Carson City Casinos
Con Air, a movie that starred Nicolas Cage was filmed in Carson City. The top 5 Carson City casinos are listed below:
- Casino Fandango
- Carson Station Casino
- Comstock Casino
- Carson Nugget
- Jackpot Crossing Casino
Reno City Casinos
Reno was famous for it high divorce rates in the 1940’s and 1950’s and was ahead of Las Vegas as the place for excitement and action. Currently known as the “The Biggest Little City in the World”.
- Silver Legacy Resort & Casino
- Atlantis Casino Resort
- Grand Sierra Resort and Casino
- Circus Circus
- Club Cal
There are so many other cities in Nevada with great casinos, that you can simply drive through Nevada perform a google search and review and pick one. Often you will find the better payout ratio’s in the not so touristy venues.
Nevada was one of the first three states to legalize sports betting. As such, it is currently generating the most revenue from sports betting than any other state in the US. Home of the most historical boxing matches ever, it’s no wonder that Nevada is the leader in sports betting.
