Wisconsin Online Casinos

The Badger State offers a wide variety of gaming options through several tribal run casinos. Online casino and bingo gambling is available by offshore providers while sports betting remains illegal which is in contrast to bordering states Iowa and Illinois.

Wisconsin has a good variety of gaming available in large casinos and small outlets. You will find the usual casino table games, slots, and poker offered. Pari-mutuel betting is available but extremely limited and should be avoided unless you like being greatly disappointed. Bingo and the Lottery is wildly popular with plenty of venues and outlets to play at. Online casino and bingo is offered by offshore providers whilst an online lottery is operated by the Wisconsin Department of State Revenue.

Sports betting has yet to follow the bordering states of Iowa and Illinois and remains illegal. There has been no indication by State politicians of raising a Bill, even to simply initiate discussion. We therefore don’t anticipate any changes to legalizing sports betting in the near future in Wisconsin. If you would like to place a sports bet, you will need to drive cross border to Iowa or Illinois.

Wisconsin Online Gambling

Similar to many other US States, one area of ambiguity in gambling law is online gaming. The state laws do not actually directly refer to online gaming in the state of Wisconsin as legal or illegal. Online gaming cannot therefore be ruled as legal, but that doesn’t stop residents from playing on online sites that reside outside of Wisconsin.

These sites, include online poker, online casino games, online sports betting and other online gaming.

Overview of Wisconsin Casinos

There are no privately commercially run casinos in Wisconsin. All casinos are operated by native American tribes and therefore are governed by Federal laws and not State. This does not mean that Wisconsin has limited gaming options, far from it. The tribal casinos offer a wide range of casino table games, slots, bingo and poker.

Wisconsin has 26 casinos in which you’ll find more than 20,488 slots and gaming machines. There are a total of 340 table games. This is a good offering of casino options. Together with casinos, you will be able to find gaming options at smaller outlets.

Bingo

Bingo is regulated by the department of Gaming’s Office of Charitable Gaming. The department has issued comprehensive rules to operate a bingo venue, an appropriate need as Wisconsin has over 400 licensed operators conducting more than 10,000 bingo events per year!

The rules stipulate that one event cannot surpass issuing $2,500 of winnings, and not more than $500 can be won in a single non progressive round. There are rules that cap the cost of purchasing a bingo ticket, keeping bingo gaming affordable.

Online Bingo is not referred to as illegal in the State. However, similar to online casino laws, it is only off shore online bingo sites that can accept Wisconsin / US players.

Lottery

The Oneida Nation tribe was the first to introduce a lottery in Wisconsin in the early 1980’s. They created a game called the Big Green lottery which is still running to this day, which is nothing short of amazing. In 1988, the State formally created the Wisconsin Lottery which then released additional games to supplement the Big Green lottery. Fast forward to today, and you will find a huge variety of lottery games on offer.

Surprisingly Wisconsin was one of the first movers of US States to offer online lottery. Perhaps to ahead of its time, the first online lottery got off to a shaky start. Money Game 4 was launched in September 1993 and was pulled offline in August 1996. However, it was soon replaced with Daily Millions online.

Wisconsin also participates in the multi state lotteries of Powerball and Mega-millions.

Sports Betting

Although neighboring states have moved forward with legalizing sports betting, Wisconsin is sticking to the status quo. Sports betting is growing in popularity in the US. So, if you are looking for opportunities to place a sports bet drive across the border to Iowa or Illinois which have legalized sports betting in their states.

A Lawyer’s Opinion

Wisconsin is a restrictive state for online gamblers but a friendly one for those wishing to get their fix via its land-based Tribal casinos. See Wisc. Stat. § 945.01 et seq.; Wisc. Stat. § 562.001 et seq.

Sports Betting: Online betting on fantasy sports is legal in Wisconsin, permitting FanDuel, DraftKings and others to operate within the state so long as they follow the regulations on operation. General sportsbook making, however, remains prohibited, with the state being one of only a handful that did not even consider a sports betting law this year. Individuals who wish to make online sportsbooks, thus, must do so through platforms operating outside of the state.

Race Betting: Like in many states, pari-mutuel and on-track horse and dog race betting is legal in Wisconsin though racetrack betting is no longer available given the lack of racetracks in the state. Off-track betting is prohibited thou simulcast and online betting is permitted if the wager is made through a licensed domestic platform, including TGV and Twinspire.

Online Gambling: Online gambling, including participation in poker rooms, is not permitted in the state of Wisconsin. Thus, individuals wishing to participate in online gambling, including poker and other such games of skill, must place bets online through platforms operating outside of the state.

Online Gaming: Bona fide contests of skill are permitted through sites such as WorldWinner.
